Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Astrology is a science but all astrologers are not scientists (laughter). First of all, you don’t know whether the time of your birth and all other factors are right or not. Sometimes, we don’t keep records and there are various factors. There is probability in all those factors. So, if you find someone who is good, the astrologer says, ‘Good, it does have a value but it is always with a pinch of salt.’ It is said that there was a great astrologer of this country and he made all the horoscopes of his daughter. But his daughter’s marriage didn’t work. It was quoted as a probability factor. In all scientific experiments, there is always a probability factor – may be, may not be. So we must take it with that probability and not as definite.
Q: Gurudev, if a boy and a girl are getting married, should horoscopes be matched or not?
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You can match horoscopes, it is fine. If there is a match it is really good, but if the horoscopes don’t match, it is okay. Just pray! Everything is acceptable.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Check if the horoscopes are correct or not. Sometimes they are manipulated to suit someone’s needs. If you like someone in all other aspects, and everything seems okay, then it’s fine, you should go ahead and marry the person.
Q: Gurudev, how much does it matter to match the kundalis (horoscopes) during marriage?
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: If you feel like, then get it done. Otherwise, you will always have a doubt in your mind whether it will match or not. It is okay to match it. Now, suppose you like the other person in all ways but just one thing doesn’t match in the kundali, then there is a solution to it. Meditate, pray, and do havan (oblation) and everything will be sorted out. It is not difficult to please all the planets. Chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ and it is done.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Look, if your parents believe in this and they have a strong feeling for it, then as you sow, so shall you reap (Meaning: what you believe in, is what will bring the outcome).
But if you say, 'God is beyond all that, and I have deep devotion in the Divine, and he will pull me out of all this', then it is a different thing. So you have to take steps in agreement with everyone.
